Teachers at the Summer Session at UAF 7/30 - 8/10/2007 were able to:

• Learn to use GPS receivers to navigate on the landscape

• Create unique GIS maps with Mac computers

• Explore the landscape - examine flooding, erosion, permafrost and local knowledge

• Practice, review, and evaluate MapTEACH curriculum lessons

•Qualify for tuition, travel, room, board, and a stipend

• Leave the class with useful materials specific to your home community in Alaska

During this course, hands-on experiences explore the new, standards-based MapTEACH curriculum, focused on understanding the local landscape and learning to make computer-based maps of scientific, cultural and personal significance. Course includes classroom studies, computer lab, and field work with local landscape experts and geologists.

THANKS to all the teachers who have helped to improve the curriculum!
